Guided journey

2- Setup Your Warehouse

Turn an empty database into a working warehouse: the model behind it, the site itself, how goods come in and go out, and your real stock on the shelves.

6 steps about 30 min Intermediate Inventory manager or administrator setting up a new site

Journey complete

You have worked through every step. Keep the momentum — the next journey builds on what you just did.

All journeys

A warehouse in WindoorERP is not a single setting — it is a model: the site itself, the locations inside it, and the operations that move goods between them. Get that model right once and every receipt, delivery and stock figure after it lands where you expect. Get it wrong and you will spend months correcting quantities by hand.

This path builds it in order: the vocabulary first, then the warehouse and the routes goods take through it, and finally your real stock counted onto the shelves. Walk it before you take your first order, and walk it with someone who can cross the floor with you.

Watch the full demo

One recording of this entire journey, start to finish — it covers every step below, and walks through worked examples that the individual articles do not each show on their own.

By the end you will be able to

  • Explain what a warehouse, a location and an operation type are, and how the three fit together
  • Create a warehouse and give it a short code you will still be happy to read in two years
  • Decide whether goods arrive and leave in one step or several, and set that per warehouse
  • Run a receipt and a delivery end to end on the simplest configuration there is
  • Configure an operation type and see the change land on the next transfer
  • Count your existing stock into the system so the figures on screen match the shelves

Before you start

  • Administrator rights, or the Inventory manager access group
  • The Inventory app installed, and its essential settings already reviewed
  • The physical layout of the site to hand: the areas you store material in, and who works in each
  • Time on the floor with whoever actually receives and issues material — this is not a desk-only setup
